We have been teaching with rescued dogs for over 16 years. They have the ability and heart to communicate wisdom and kindness in ways we don't completely understand..but it is magical.

Tails of Character combines the most meaningful lessons taught to thousands of children and adults and brings a workshop to staff at schools, hospitals, law firms, government agencies, and many more.

​We bring rescued dogs into the room and use their stories of resilience, trust, and recovery to teach lessons that tend to stick with people in a way a typical training session doesn't. There's something about learning from a dog that lowers people's guard and opens up real conversation, especially around burnout, communication, and how we show up for each other under stress.

We address with the help of the dogs:

• Communication: Dogs communicate entirely through behavior and body language, which sharpens participants' own nonverbal awareness — a skill that carries directly into reading colleagues, de-escalating tension, and noticing when someone's struggling before they say so.

• Wellness and Burnout: The program reframes rest and recovery using a dog's natural behavior (decompressing after stress, seeking connection, resting without guilt) — giving staff permission and language to do the same.It normalizes asking for help by drawing on the very human instinct dogs display when they approach someone for support, which helps break down the stigma around burnout or struggling at work.

• Trust and Team Culture:  Trust-building exercises rooted in how a rescued dog learns to trust again mirror what it takes for teams to rebuild trust after conflict, change, or turnover.The shared experience of the workshop itself creates a lasting reference point — teams often keep referring back to "what the dogs taught us" in day-to-day interactions long after the session ends.
